History:
  Richard was a graduate of Akron High School class of 1948. Following high school he served in the United States Army from 1952-1954, he was stationed in Germany serving with the military police.

Dick was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Akron, and very active in the Akron Fire Company where he served as fire chief from 1971-1977 and again in 1980. He was proud of his dedication and long standing service as a volunteer, serving his hometown community. Dick was a member of the Erie County Fire Advisory Board, NYS Fire Chief Association, Erie County Fire Chief Mutual Aid origination and the Clarence-Newstead Fire Chiefs. He also served on the Village Planning Board for the past 30 years.

Richard was employed as a machinist for the Strippit Company in Akron retiring after 37 years of employment. As a life long Akronite Dick knew just about everyone and had that special wave he gave as soon as he saw you. He was always quick with joke and after talking with him he left you with a good feeling. He and his wife Pat loved to sit on the porch in the summer time with family and friends just reminiscing. They also enjoyed just sharing the quiet times as long as they were together.

  Son of the late Frank and Mildred (Whiting) Litfin. Loving husband of 57 years to Patricia (Armbruster) Litfin, dear father of Richard Litfin Jr., Nancy Byrd, Diane (Mark) Graziano, Lynda Kulik, Brian (Cynthia) Litfin, Karen Van Osch, Alan Litfin and Christine (Mark) Hellenbach. Cherished grandfather of 20 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren, brother of Robert (late Gladys) Litfin and the late Stanley Litfin, Eleanor (late Edward) Kwiatowski, Lillian (late Marlowe) Hellert and Kenneth Litfin, brother in law of Eudora Litfin and Barbara Ann Litfin also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

  Wednesday 1-4 & 6-9 PM in the CHILDS FUNERAL HOME, LLC., 10 Eckerson Ave. Akron. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11:00 AM in the First United Methodist Church, 7 Church St. Akron.
