Age 77 Place of Birth: Town of Pembroke, New York Place of Passing: At his sons residence in Corfu, NY Resided in: Akron, NY, formerly of Pembroke, NYHistory: Les was born into a farming family and it came full circle back to his roots of farming, raising and caring for sheep and goats in his retirement years. In the eyes of his children, he was a great man that could do anything. He was always, generous and caring, willing to help anyone in need. He was a loving and adored dad, grandpa and great grandpa; a treasure and blessing to his family!Les worked as a plumber and carpenter for Western New York Plumbing for several years. He retired from U.S. Gypsum in Oakfield, NY as a mechanic in 1995. Mr. Gabbey is a lifetime member of the Pembroke Fire Department where he served as Assistant Chief for several years. He also was a member of the former Pioneers Men Club and served on the Pembroke Town Zoning Board. An expert in wood-working, making many picnic tables, doll houses and many other projects.
Family: Les was the son of the late William and Grace (Fuller) Gabbey. Mr. Gabbey was the loving husband of 43 years to the late Joyce B. Gabbey who died in 1998. Les was the proud father of Faith (Bill) Jackson of Seymour, Tennessee; Gay (Ron) Dyrbala of Alexander, NY, Guy (Elizabeth) Gabbey and Mark (Judy) Gabbey both of Corfu, NY; cherished grandfather of 16 grandchildren and great grandfather of 6; brother of Ralph (Rosemarie) Gabbey of Akron, NY, James (Christine) Gabbey of Ohio and Marge Dudek of Pembroke, NY; brother in law of Barbara Gabbey, also surviving are many cousins and many nieces and nephews. Besides his wife, Les was pre-deceased by a brother Richard Gabbey and a sister Lois Ertel.Viewing info: Family will receive friends on Saturday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM in the CHILDS FUNERAL HOME LLC, 10 Eckerson Ave. Akron, NY, where funeral services will be held on Sunday at 2 PM. Rev. Bob Dean will officiate.Burial: Burial will be in the Old Buffalo Road Cemetery Pembroke, NY.Memorials: In lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy in Les’s memory made to the American Cancer Society at the families request.
