At one time, she served as Deputy Town Clerk for the Town of Pembroke under her father Laurence Childs who was Town Clerk. Dorothy served as the Pembroke correspondent to the Batavia Daily News after the death of her father. She was employed by the former E.N. Rowell Company in Batavia for several years when she was younger. Dorothy was a lifelong member of the Pembroke Community Church where she served as Trustee, Church Clerk, Deaconess and Head Usher.Family: Dorothy was the dear wife of the late Alexander C. Nowak whom she married on May 5, 1960 and died in 1992. Loving mother of ; Paul D. and Mark A. Nowak of Pembroke, NY, Dea Ann (David) Wehling of Akron, NY and Helen (Philip) Miller of Pembroke, NY. Special and proud grandma of Benjamin Wehling, Alex, Melissa, Rachel and Laura Miller. Dear sister of Shirley (Roy) Denning of Clarence Center, NY and the late Helen Atwell, Robert, Wilbur and David Childs. Sister in law of; Rosemary Childs of West Falls, NY, Carol Childs of Batavia, NY, Phyllis Fox and Walter Zon of Pembroke, NY. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.Viewing info: Family will receive friends on Sunday from 2-4 & 7-9 PM in the CHILDS FUNERAL HOME 10 Eckerson Ave., Akron.
